The Issue

Two tigers have died at the tiger reserve in the past 10 days.

Tiger MH-3 had died on July 23 due to a cardiac arrest and tigress MT-2 was found dead on Monday (August 3).

He said the tigers were radio-collared and cameras are installed in the reserve in a bid to ensure effective monitoring of the animals.

However, the tigers’ deaths have exposed lapses in the monitoring of the animals.

The carcass of tiger MT-2 (4) was found at Beora Talai in MHTR on Monday morning and its autopsy revealed that a territorial fight led to its death. But the carcass of radio-collared MT-2 tiger was found at Beora Talai in MHTR on Monday, 48 hours after its death, which, experts said, showed that the movement of the tigers was not being monitored.

Rajasthan’s representative in National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), the apex body in the country, that fact that the wildlife department found the body of a radio-collared tiger 48 hours after its death is enough to indict the MHTR officials. “If they cannot track a big cat with a radio collar, what will they do with other tigers?”

This is clear indication of the shortage of skilled staff, especially forester, rangers and guards, was an issue with all wildlife sanctuaries in the state including Mukundra. The post-mortem of MT-3 had indicated the kind of deposits inside the body that pointed to tiger preying on cattle instead of wild prey base. There has been also an issue of poor prey base at Mukundra and inadequate expertise at MTR.

Meanwhile, we has expressed his grief over the death of the tigress and termed the death of two tigers within a short period very unfortunate and recommended a high-level inquiry into the death of the two wild animals in MHTR.

Everyone wants to know the answer to the questions arising about two tiger's death, why did forest officials neglected things which was harmful for the nature as well as country?
