#MyVoteMatters – Sign our Petition to Make Politics Accessible for All
The Issue
There are 1.5 million people with learning disabilities living in the UK and over 700,000 autistic people – but 45% of the general public said they didn’t know that they have an equal right to vote.
Disabled people face too many obstacles to inclusion and participation in public life, but our politics should be accessible for everyone.
Complex information on how voting works, unclear instructions on how to ask for help at polling stations and accessible manifestos published late are just some of the hurdles facing voters.

My Vote My Voice is a nationwide coalition of disability advocates, organisations, and charities campaigning to mobilise more autistic people and people with learning disabilities to register to vote and cast their ballots at the next general election.
We’re calling on elected representatives of all parties and none to do their part to make elections – and our wider politics – more accessible. We want to see:
- Government: commit to ensuring that disabled voters’ statutory rights and entitlements to voting assistance remain protected and improved.
- Parliament: ensure there is better representation of disabled people at national level by creating more accessible pathways to elected office.
- Parliamentarians: pledge to ensure that at least one member of their staff teams is fully-trained in Easy Read to make their communication more accessible for all constituents.
As most of the Election Act’s reforms come into effect this year, it's vital that disabled voters aren’t overlooked and disenfranchised by a lack of robust supports enabling them to exercise their democratic rights.
