Reduce speed limit on montee des Cerisiers to 30 km/hr
Reduce speed limit on montee des Cerisiers to 30 km/hr
The Issue
Re: New Municipal Traffic Calming and Speed Limit Policy
1. The draft policy states that speed limits on residential roads need to be "credible with drivers". We disagree. The limit needs to be credible with residents, particularly regarding safety, especially that of our children. There are 16 children school age children living on our little 0.5km loop of 15 homes.
2. The draft policy does not consider blind curves and other characteristics of the road which may obstruct or hinder visibility, or pose a heightened risk to pedestrians and cyclists on the road. montee des Cerisiers has three blind curves and 3 steep hills all in a half km loop.
3. The draft policy does not consider pedestrian use of the road, especially by children. montee des Cerisiers is very close to Grande Boise school. Students who live on montee des Cerisiers tend to walk to school. Also, a community trail was recently completed linking montee des Cerisiers and Lisam. This means we can expect more children will now use montee des Cerisiers/Lilsam to get to school. The children often walk when the school buses are also using Lilsam. School buses, speed, blind curves, winter conditions and pedestrians on a road with no sidewalks and deep ditches on either side is not a safe scenario.
