Madhuri Bose, the granddaughter of Sarat Chandra Bose and grandniece of Subhas Chandra Bose, while speaking in an interview highlights two principles which Subhas had enunciated way back in 1926 that "embracing sanyas when your country needs you is a refined form of betrayal" and "by discarding life you cannot attain the life divine." She appeals to people to read the writings of the Bose brothers to understand how they lived their lives, what they stood for and their principles. She speaks about the relationship between the Bose brothers and offers a brief peek into the aspects that Sarat Bose had on his brother's life. While speaking about Subhas's vision for an independent and modern India, she refers to his Haripura address where he talked about fundamental rights, importance of harmony and unity across the many communities who live in India and harped on Hindu-Muslim unity which is becoming very critical today for India. She feels that he dreamt of an economy which would serve everyone's needs and so he promoted socialistic principles. She requests Indians to go back to Vivekananda who was Subhas's spiritual guru, for his socialistic ideas and promote communal harmony. While sharing anecdotes about Subhas, she reveals that he was a keen photographer, a fact which is not known widely. She talks about the detailed planning of his escape from his Elgin Road house in 1941 and also about the daring act of his transfer from the German submarine to a Japanese submarine on the high seas when the second world war was raging in early 1943, while he was travelling to Japan. Coming to Netaji's disappearance mystery she expresses her concern on behalf of a section of the Bose family about the Gumnami Baba theory which is being propagated. She says that she fails to understand why any intelligent human being with common sense would even begin to suspect that Subhas Chandra Bose returned to India and lived incognito for thirty years. She again highlights the courage, bravery and sacrifice that made Subhas and questions that why would he remain in hiding for thirty years and not come out to serve his country. She categorically dismisses the Gumnami Baba story and wonders who are supporting it. She challenges the story which is being spread. She appeals to all those who believe in the Bose brothers, respect and admire these two men to challenge the story. She suggests that people should uphold the legacy that Subhas has left and try to realize his dreams. She states that she has not found any evidence in a book written on the Gumnami Baba theory that would lead one to believe that the baba was Subhas Chandra Bose. She concludes the interview saying that the Bose brothers are known worldwide and mentions that when Sarat Bose passed away on 20 February 1950, the New York Times had headlined that "Sarat Chandra Bose, the No. 1 rival of Jawahar Lal Nehru passes away" indicating that he was coming into prominence in Indian politics and could have done more for his country had he not died so early.
