IMMEDIATE clean up of Creeks in Terrey Hills affected by pollution, killing fish.

The issue

Dear Mr Persson

We call your attention to the pollution incident affecting Creeks in Terrey Hills.

An as yet undetermined pollutant, appearing as a white material covering the creek bank and creating heavy foamy masses in some areas, entered Neverfail Creek, Terrey Hills on Sunday 27th November. A number of dead Long Finned Eels have been seen as have Eastern Water Dragons covered in the white pollutant.

Repeated calls have been made to Northern Beaches Council and NSW Office of Environment & Heritage, by local residents. Minimal attempts have been made to contain, remove and begin the cleanup of the pollutant from the creeks.  Dead Eels can still been seen in the watercourses and the pollutant continues to travel further down through Kuringai National Park towards the Cowan Creek part of the Hawkesbury River system.

Unless the the pollutant is contained and removed, aquatic wildlife (Fish, Crayfish, Waterbugs) will continue to die and harm to animals using the watercourse as habitat or as a water source (Wallabies) can occur.

We the undersigned believe that the pollution event needs immediate action TODAY, Friday 2nd December, to contain the pollutant and begin the cleanup. NSW Office of Environment & Heritage advises this is the responsibility of the newly amalgamated Northern Beaches Council. We call upon you, Mr Persson, to intervene and mobilise sufficient resources to contain the pollutant and begin the cleanup TODAY!
