Why this petition matters

We need to move the graduation for the final years in 2022 and any other graduations in the future to ensure they have a proper graduation, students who have previously had their graduation at Ponds Forge were told that this would be a temporary solution.

This is unacceptable and this needs to be changed, not just for this year, but for everyone who will graduate in the future.

Those in charge of this decision to have the graduation in a sports centre, clearly do not care about the students, or what they have been through. After years of studies, students have experienced strikes, year after year and Covid-19, with terrible online teaching, and in personal cases, lecturers not replying to emails regarding assignments for weeks. The standards of teaching, in person, have declined too. Students have voiced their opinions and issues regarding all of this, however, no changes seem to have been made, nor does anyone who is employed by the university seem to care.

After speaking with a department rep, they mentioned that the decision to keep the graduation in a sports centre may be "set in stone".

We recently received an email informing us that our graduation would take place within the city hall, however, due to a "administrative error" this was soon changed to a swimming pool at the bottom of Sheffield City Centre.

Because the students pay for their own graduation, and the price of attending university, it stands to reason that we should have a graduation that we are proud of, not one that we should be ashamed of.

Those who recently had their graduation at ponds forge mentioned that they tried to make it look appealing, however, it looked cheap and smelled of chlorine, something I do not wish, nor want anyone who is graduating to experience.

Personally I would rather look at the scenery of the nearby peace gardens and the classy look of City Hall than the unappealing building that Ponds Forge is.

Feedback from graduates from Hallam is greatly appreciated whether you graduated at Ponds Forge, or City Hall, as this can provide helpful information to those who are going to graduate in the future.
