The Issue

Gravy is not just any turkey; he has become a beloved figure in Middletown, RI. Known for his friendly disposition and fearlessness around humans and cars, he has lived among us peacefully. However, because of his habituated nature, he doesn't recognize the dangers that come with living close to busy roads. Releasing him back into such an environment is akin to placing him directly in harm's way, rather than offering him a chance to thrive in his natural habitat.

Our plea is simple yet critical: Relocate Gravy to a designated "Safe Zone" where he can live safely away from the daily threats of traffic and other hazards that come with bustling town life. Middletown's residents have formed deep connections with Gravy, and seeing him wander into potential danger is heart-wrenching. A Safe Zone would not only protect Gravy but also set a precedent for how we as a community value the lives of all creatures in our midst.

Rehabilitation specialists agree that Gravy's unique situation requires an alternative approach. The usual protocol for wildlife doesn't suit him due to his lack of instinctual fear of vehicles and humans. Many towns across the country have successfully relocated wildlife to safer environments. Newport's Sachuest Point offers such a habitat with its sprawling protected lands—an ideal sanctuary that could serve as Gravy's new home.

By signing this petition, you will join others in urging local wildlife authorities and town officials to implement this relocation effort. Let's provide Gravy with the environment he needs to live safely and continue bringing joy to all who have had the pleasure of knowing him. For Gravy, this isn't just a move; it's a matter of life and death.

Please sign this petition to help us safeguard Gravy's future and ensure Middletown demonstrates true respect and care for our wildlife.
