Grant Bianca Davidson A Posthumous Degree

The Issue

Bianca Jocelyn Davidson, a student at Mount Saint Vincent University for three years, passed away unexpectedly on July 6, 2016. She was a hard-working, dedicated, and diligent student who attended classes year-round during her time at MSVU.

Bianca had a more difficult and traumatic childhood than most. She was bounced from home to home and school to school. She attended eleven elementary schools in her formative years. Each time she became comfortable at a school, she was ripped out of it. She expressed many times that she felt this constant upheaval was a detriment to her education, but she was determined not to let it hold her back. She persevered and graduated with honours from Central Kings Rural High School in 2011.

Bianca's dream was to go to Dalhousie University to study social work after finishing her undergrad at the Mount. She said she wanted to be the social worker she never had; the social worker that just "got it" for kids growing up in similar situations to hers. She would have been amazing.

I've made it my mission to honour her. One of the things she wanted most in life was to graduate from university. She couldn't wait to walk across the stage and prove everyone who had ever doubted her wrong.

I have asked for a posthumous degree to be granted to Bianca. My request has been denied because she had not completed enough of her degree requirements. She doesn't get to walk across the stage for her convocation, she will not get to wear the gown, she will not get to attend Dalhousie, and she won't get to use the education that she worked so hard to achieve in the work force. All I am asking for is an honorary degree to honour her and to serve as a token of the hard work that she had done before she was tragically lost from this world. If you would like to support me in my quest, I would appreciate your signature. I know Bianca would, too.
