SAVE OUR TIMBER SETTLER'S COTTAGE

SAVE OUR TIMBER SETTLER'S COTTAGE
The issue
We need people power to save our historic 1860's timber Settler's Cottage on Mt Alexander Road Essendon.
Council has endorsed the construction of a new development at this site, and the demolition of this Cottage.
The building is described as being of potential regional importance and the residence of the service tradesmen which flourished on the gold rush route along Mount Alexander Road during the 1800's: of high local importance.
This building is a very rare example of the gold rush era.
Whilst under no obligation, the developer is willing to help re-locate the dwelling, but Council need to agree to this.
We need Council to understand that this building is a community asset. The community don't want to see this building be demolished.
Council, we are asking you to find a suitable site so this heritage listed cottage can be relocated. The significant character and rich history of this dwelling needs to be retained for future generations to enjoy.
