Modify Fishing Restrictions in Martha Cove Marina for Sport and Catch and Release

The issue

At the heart of our vibrant community, Martha Cove marina serves as a sanctuary, a place of respite and adventure where locals, including myself, a young angler, find joy in engaging in sports like catch and release fishing. Unfortunately, due to current restrictions and regulations, our enthusiasm for fishing here has been met with unjust undue criticism from residents and unwarranted interference by security.

This petition aims to change the current state of affairs by advocating for a revision of fishing restrictions in the area, allowing for sport fishing and catch and release activities using only artificial lures—no bait involved—to ensure the preservation of marine life.

The health benefits and serenity of the sport, especially for young enthusiast like me, are immeasurable. According to a study by the University of Nebraska, engaging in outdoor recreational activities like fishing "can reduce stress and contribute to overall physical wellness" (Outdoor Recreation, Health, and Wellness, 2009).

Moreover, this initiative promotes environmental stewardiness with the use of artificial lures and a catch and release policy. This notably minimizes harm to the marine life—a win for both fishing enthusiasts and the environment.

We urge the management and residents of the Marina to understand our perspective and consider the merits of this proposed change. It's about our serenity, our passion, and the preservation of marine life. Please stand with us and sign this petition.
