As a Year 10 student who just picked GCSE Dance, I was really excited to start the course. However, I quickly realized a huge issue that affects students all across the UK! The curriculum is nearly ten years out of date. The solo pieces we have to learn were created a decade ago, and the whole course focuses almost entirely on slow, contemporary dance.

This lack of variety is completely unfair to students like me who have spent years training in street dance, hip-hop, fast-paced modern choreography, or cultural dances. Right now, talented urban and commercial dancers are skipping this GCSE entirely because they feel like they won't be able to showcase their true skills or get the highest marks in a style they've never done before.

I am kindly asking the AQA exam board to consider changing the curriculum to include a wider choice of dance styles that actually reflect modern times. Adding hip-hop and commercial styles would make the course much more inclusive and give every dancer a fair chance to shine!
