EcoGenX against the Agriculture Plastic Regulation with our Made in Saskatchewan plan

EcoGenX against the Agriculture Plastic Regulation with our Made in Saskatchewan plan
The Issue
EcoGenX Agriculture Recycling Ltd is a Saskatchewan based company created by Dallon Leger with a mission to provide a recycling service for agriculture plastics in Canada. Initially focused on grain bags, EcoGenX has collected over 4 million lbs since we started in 2017 and we are proud to work with the leading recycling company in the United States.
In 2018 the government of Saskatchewan introduced the Agriculture Packaging Product Waste Stewardship regulation which came into effect Jan 25 2018. This states that a EHF fee must be charged on the sale of every grain bag - with 100% of those funds being sent to CleanFarms, a Non Profit organization from Toronto, Ontario to administrator their grain bag recycling program.
EcoGenX has a different solution, a Made in Saskatchewan solution. As a company EcoGenX will retain responsibility of the grain bags we sell. We will than provide the EHF fee as a credit to the producer at the time of EcoGenX picking up the grain bags. If you bring your bags to a EcoGenX site, you will receive 75% of your EHF fee back as a cheque. If a producer recycles his grain bags, he should be compensated for "Doing the right thing". We believe our model to have a 90% Recovery rate of plastic, while providing value to our producers ultimately leading to a cleaner environment. Other grain bag retailers that would like to adopt our methods, can work with EcoGenX to provide recycling options for their customers.
EcoGenX has chosen to fight this regulation. Moving forward in 2022 - All grain bags that EcoGenX collects for recycling will be recycled back into a new grain bag and EcoGenX will be retailing the new product line for fall of 2022. This great innovation and collaboration allows for a 100% full circle economy which is the ultimate recycling program. EcoGenX is in a position to challenge this act, keep the EHF fee funds that Saskatchewan farmers pay back in their pockets, and allow a Saskatchewan Agriculture business to continue to grow.
On Friday Sept 17th, I received a letter from a Law Firm representing CleanFarms stating that I must comply with the regulation. I have chosen to make a stand. I have created this petition to use in my fight as I move forward. On average - 1 million dollars is collected and remitted to CleanFarms from Saskatchewan producers each year as a "recycling fee". Our solution keeps that money in our province.
