Although it is widely recognized that Joe Biden has won the 2020 presidential election, Senator Mike Lee still refuses to recognize Joe Biden as the President-elect. Instead, Senator Lee is intent on following the GOP's narrative that the election was riddled with widespread fraud. Not only is this completely false, but this was one of the smoothest-run elections in modern American history.

In failing to recognize Joe Biden as the president-elect, as well as refusing to encourage President Trump to concede the election, Senator Lee along with the GOP are undermining faith in the American democratic system. Suggesting the appearance of widespread fraud in a country where free and fair elections have been occurring for over two hundred years is an affront to our democracy. By undermining faith in our elections, Senator Mike Lee and the Republican Party are also sowing doubt in the ability of Congress and government as a whole to protect the voices of citizens, as well as to follow the will of the people.

For these reasons, we demand that Senator Mike Lee recognize Joe Biden as the president-elect of the United States. We also demand that Senator Lee encourage President Trump to concede the presidential election as soon as possible, as well as to denounce the efforts of the Republican Party to cast doubt on this country's system of free and fair elections. In doing so, Senator Lee will stand up for the legacy of a democratic system- one in which every citizen's voice is heard.
