The Freedom of Michael Gravely.

The Freedom of Michael Gravely.
The Issue
Michael Gravely has been incarcerated since the age of 19 on a 36 year sentence while his Co-defendant, former Ohio State football player, Derrick Foster was only sentenced to 5 years and only served 4. Michael has been an model inmate. His Co-defendant Derrick Foster who was 38 at the time admitted and was found guilty of the shooting of the same two Columbus Police officers that Michael is also accused of. Raised in a single parent home with little to no male influence other than his peers the streets were his only escape. Lost in a system where he is just a number, A605133. He has children, friends, Family and other loved ones who would like to see him freed and given a second chance and Michael would like a chance to raise his Children. The mindset of a 19 year old boy and the mindset of a soon to be 32 year old man are two different things. He is also asthmatic and with the Covid-19 pandemic effecting all of us it is his fear that if he is infected he may perish. He has been on chronic care since his incarceration. He feels he is more than deserving of a second chance not only at freedom but at life. Micheals prison sentence has not only affected him personally but those who need and love him the most and his loved ones do not feel his second chance should come when he is 55 years old if he lives that long. His Children should not have to wait until they are 37 and 36 years old to be able to fully know their father. While in prison Michael has obtained his GED and has also participated in the Cage your Rage Program, Thinking for a Change, Tyros Dad and other numerous programs while incarcerated. One mistake does not define a man and all that Michael is asking for is equal justice. Equality should be a God given right to every man and woman. With you signing this petition you not only bring awareness to Michaels case but also advocate for equal justice and Equality.
