Stop Speeding Traffic on Residential Streets in Eglinton-Lawrence Riding

Stop Speeding Traffic on Residential Streets in Eglinton-Lawrence Riding
The Issue
My street, in the Eglinton-Lawrence riding, has a speed limit of 40 km/h, which is way too fast. Cars come speeding off the main road, and often kill helpless squirrels and sometimes cats. I have written to local council many times, but my letters fall on deaf ears. My impetus for writing this petition stems from the fact that a baby squirrel I feed, was killed today. Moments before she was killed she was eating snacks I put out, and then seconds later there she was, dead, on the road.
The traffic has gotten more intense, people are driving more aggressivley and are in a bigger rush, and, as a result, animals die.
My street has elderly people, and children whom I would not want crossing the street alone. Apart from the human beings on my street, there are also cats that people mainly keep indoors because they fear the traffic, and local 'wildlife', that often end up as roadkill- It shouldn't be this way.
I have created this petition to draw attention to the fact that speeding and congestion on residential streets is a real danger but can be stopped.
Here is a link to an article about how Helsinki, Finland ended all pedestrian deaths. If they can do it, why can't we?
Please sign this petition and tell Mike Colle, the city councillor for Eglinton-Lawrence, as well as our Mayor, John Tory, that residential streets in Toronto can be made safer, by:
1) Reducing the speed limit to 20 km/h or lower
2) Adding pinch points, to make speeding more difficult
3) Erecting Drive Slowly signs
