PLEASE ADDRESS GOV. WHITMER'S OVER-REACHING AUTHORITY DURING THIS DIFFICULT PERIOD OF TIME

The Issue

Michiganders are calling on our elected senators and house representatives to put an end to governor whitmer's extreme over-reaching of authority

We the people, believe that during this difficult time, Ms. Whitmer is no longer thinking clearly and making rational and logical decisions.  Regardless of which side of the political spectrum you are on, the majority of Michiganders can all agree that as of 4-9-20, she has crossed the line into "abuse of power" territory.  Her vision right now is one of panic, and one of short-sightedness.  Michigan needs a leader right now that can take a step back, and assess the larger picture with a calm and cerebral approach.  To be blunt, Michigan needs a leader right now, not a "mother hover."  This means instead of panicking and putting as many restrictions in place as possible, as fast as possible.  We need someone who can instead be a bit more strategic and open minded and realize that we can still practice safe social distancing, and still achieve the overall goal of protecting human life WITHOUT sacrificing our basic human rights.  WITHOUT sacrificing our entire quality of life.  WITHOUT sacrificing our constitutional rights.  And WITHOUT shutting the ENTIRE economy down.

The restrictions imposed on Michiganders are far more strict than ANY OTHER STATE in the country.  This includes New Jersey which has more than double the amount of covid-19 cases as Michigan, and New York which has over 7 TIMES the amount of cases that Michigan has.

Ms. Whitmer so far, has been unwilling to listen to any reason from any of the senators or house of representatives that have sent letters and discussed with her the idea of relaxing some of the restrictions, and/or allowing for less restrictions in certain counties that are largely unaffected.  Ms. Whitmer...all great leaders listen to the advice of their constituents, their peers, and their advisors.  Taking a hard stance doesn't always mean you're a great leader, it means you're ignorant.

In just the last 30 days, Ms. Whitmer has signed 43 executive orders related to covid-19.  With each executive order that is signed, her vast over-reaching removes more and more of our basic rights as american citizens.  We've lost boating and recreational vehicles such as motorcycles.  We've lost the ability to visit a vacation home at a time when many Michiganders are seeking out isolated shelter.  If you own two homes, we've now also lost the ability to travel from one house to the other, instead needing to choose one home and stay there for the duration.  Our grocery stores have now been forced to close parts of their own store such as the garden centers, and any parts of the stores that don't sell "life sustaining" products.  Our builders, both large and small, have lost their ability to work on any local construction projects, while any GOVERNMENT related construction projects are allowed to continue as usual. And now the latest executive order, 2020-43, directly violates our 2nd amendment rights by deeming guns and ammo stores as "non essential."

The State of Michigan has lost more than 800,000 jobs...just in the last 3 weeks.  By the end of the executive order, Michigan's unemployment rate will be at 15% or more.  Yet Ms. Whitmer refuses to allow any flexibility within the executive order for even the most self isolated jobs, such as landscapers.  Ms. Whitmer, again, you're not proving a point or saving anyone's life by not allowing a local landscaper to cut his neighbors grass while his neighbor is inside watching tv.  You are proving your panic, and inability to flex and adapt during difficult times.

One of the greatest strengths of entrepreneurs is an uncanny ability to adapt.  Ms. Whitmer, you are taking this ability away from Michigan's entrepreneurs.  If a businesses model does not fit within the confines of your executive order, or poses too much of a "social risk," businesses should be allowed to adapt, and change their processes to serve their customers in a limited/minimal capacity and at least be able to keep their doors open, as long as they are practicing safe social distancing.  Health care workers right now are being praised for adapting by making their own PPE, and making due with what they have.  But when a small business tries to do the same to adapt their operations to comply with the executive order, they are ridiculed and shut down.  Ms. Whitmer...EVERYONE is struggling and having a tough time, not just health care workers.  EVERYONE needs the flexibility to adapt to this pandemic, not just health care workers.

Senators, House representatives,  Michiganders are calling on ALL of you, to first try and reason with Ms. Whitmer, to take a more logic based approach to the current executive order in regards to restrictions on the general public, as well as "essential" businesses and "critical infrastructure workers."  And if this does not work, I am secondly URGING you to please vote to not extend her emergency powers beyond the current expiring time period of April 30th.
