DON’T CLOSE OUR 7-ELEVEN!

DON’T CLOSE OUR 7-ELEVEN!
The issue
SAVE OUR 7-ELEVEN!
7-Eleven want to close our local store. The franchisees are 6 years into a 10 year lease agreement.
The store is located centrally within our local village shops, centred around Heathmont Station. It is a convenience store only, and does not have petrol. According to 7-Eleven management the store isn’t profitable enough.
7-Eleven say their business is made up of more than 450 small family-owned businesses. They say they work with hundreds of passionate franchisees who make their brand what it is and their franchise offer helps families build their own businesses. They also claim that “... each 7-Eleven store also plays an essential role within the local community.”
Yes it does! It is OUR local convenience store. And the franchise holders have become a part of our community.
Oddly, 7-Eleven claim they are expanding the number of stores, yet are wanting to close this one. They current store owners have just endured a dramatic loss of income in 2020 due to Melbourne’s Covid lockdowns, as have many small businesses. Of course the store is not profitable! But like all those heavily invested in their business, they should be given the chance to build it back up post-Covid.
The store is popular with locals, commuters, high school kids (there are three local high schools close by), as well as those passing through. It’s a key & central part of our local shopping strip. It’s our only grocery/convenience store open around the clock.
In fact, with a multi-storey carpark for the station about to be built next to the store, it’s amazing 7-Eleven want to leave.
