On 13 June 2016 in TKMaxx at Monks Cross in York I spotted 'Wolters Silent' collars for sale. My main concern with the product was all the packaging was in German. I went to google to find out what they were and was horrified to find they were bark correction collars. I took to Twitter and pointed out the inappropriate nature of the product and within 24 hours they agreed to stop selling them. On the 28th June 2016 I spotted them again in HomeSense at Foss Island York. This is a sister company to TK Maxx. Immediately I contacted a representative from TJX at customer services for TJX Europe (the umbrella group). After some discussion and emails I was informed that the risk team had assessed the product and found it acceptable to sell. - correction collars have proved to be ineffective - the German instructions don't allow English customers to make an informed choice - TJX Europe, who claim on their website to have ' high standards of ethics' and build relationships on ' honesty and truth' with a 'commitment to ethical business practices, have been misleading by moving the products to a sister company. TJX Europe have the opportunity to be the first major retailer to ban the sale of products that harm animals. A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Lincoln proves correction collars "cause distress to the dog" and " present a risk to the well being of dogs". As an ex dog rescue worker I have seen first hand the emotional damage they cause to not only dogs but the owners who give them up as a last resort. Positive reinforcement training is the only, scientifically proven way to trIn and care for a dog.
