Stop the 52 Storey High Rise in Strathfield CBD

The issue

Dear Neighbour,

LENDLEASE PLANNING PROPOSAL IN STRATHFIELD TOWN CENTRE

Lendlease Developments Pty Limited (Lendlease) on 18 December, 2020 lodged their “Strathfield Town Square Project” a Planning Proposal with Strathfield Council.

The Lendlease Planning Proposal:

  • proposes a height of approximately 52 storeys for the building
  • removes totally the 55 car parking spaces in the Strathfield Community Car Park
  • removes 3 to 4 Bus Bays (out of the existing 7 to 8 bus bays)
  • removes the Taxi Rank from in front of the Station entrance to Albert Road
  • drastically reduces the number of waiting taxi spaces to 2
  • moves the Kiss and Ride to Churchill Avenue opposite Strathfield Square
  • re-designs the 2017 Upgrade of Strathfield Square
  • opens up Albert Road and Churchill Avenue to two way traffic
  • uses the existing Strathfield Community Car Park for the entry/exit to their underground car parking for the residential unit owners
  • uses 8,130m2 of Council owned land in their Planning Proposal to be able to achieve the 528 residential units
  • only provides 242 car parking spaces for the 528 residential units
  • massive overshadowing of properties next door & in surrounding streets

Strathfield Council owns the Strathfield Council Car Park, the Roads & Foothpaths and Strathfield Square that Lendlease Developments Pty Limited want to use in their Planning Proposal.

Residents in apartments in Strathfield Town Centre and surrounds could lose their view and access to sunlight.

The total value of land owned by Strathfield Council is estimated to be approx. $496,672,715.00.

Lendlease Developments could potentially make $149,060,136.00 Profit from the additional 35 Storeys gained if the Planning Proposal was approved.

We strongly believe the Lendlease Developments Planning Proposal will “short change” the Strathfield Community.

We are the only Party standing up for the Residents to ensure the Community is not “ripped off" by a multi-national company.

PETITION

We the undersigned Petitioners – the ratepayers, residents and business owners and staff in the Strathfield Local Government Area state that:

We CONDEMN the Lendlease Developments Pty Limited “Strathfield Town Square Project” Planning Proposal.

We DEMAND that the * Strathfield Community Car Park (55 spaces) is retained * the Goodwill Fountain and current design of Strathfield Square is retained * the current Bus Terminal is retained * Albert Road & Churchill Avenue remain one way only * the current location of the Taxi Rank and “Kiss & Ride” is retained

We DEMAND that Strathfield Councillors totally REJECT the Lendlease         Developments Pty Limited “Strathfield Town Square Project” Planning      Proposal when it comes before the Strathfield Council Meeting for a decision.
