Pure Gym is taking over the LA Fitness, one club at a time. The Pure Gym business model as the name suggests is 'purely a gym', with no wetside facilities (pool/steam/sauna) and only the majority of classes included in the membership for free (not all classes including Pilates and Zumba). They keep membership costs low by not having facilities or services which requite maintenance costs (including staff).

The recent announcement on 26th August that Pure Gym would be closing down the LA Fitness Edgware for refurbishment to a Pure Gym club on 26th September also came with the news that the wetside facilities would be removed (there has been no communication about the charge that Pure Gym operates on some classes).  

The aim of this petition is to have the planned abolishment of the current pool, steam and sauna overturned. As Pure Gym does not operate wetsite facilities, they are not a good fit for ownership of this site which does currently offer such facilities, so the petition aims to overturn Pure Gym's buyout or operation of the current site unless it can operate the wetside facilities.

This is for the sake of many community members who will have their lifestyle severely hindered, in addition to the many members who use one or some of the wetside facilities or are members of this club purely for those facilities. Members were in no way consulted before the announcement, with no guage from Pure Gym as to whether this site would be appropriate for the Pure Gym operating (a very different business model/offering than LA Fitness currently operate). This is one of the only, if not the only, swimming pool/steam/sauna facilities in Edgware that is available to members of the public to join up to, and without this the community of Edgware will lose important amenities.

LA Fitness Edgware caters for many health-conscious people in the area with their ladies gym, swimming pool, aqua aerobics classes, steam room, sauna, 100% of classes included in the membership and therapy rooms. Since Pure Gym has their personal trainers running the free classes that they offer, all current class instructors, some highly rated by current members, are not guaranteed work when the takeover is complete).

The Pure Gym takeover of LA fitness scheduled from Saturday 26th September at 4pm (due to re-open after refurbishment as a Pure Gym in mid-January 2016) threatens the lifestyle of many members who use these facilities, and either cannot afford/easily access a membership at some of the competition in neighboring towns. On top of this, the staff and personal trainers who will lose their jobs/clients and have to seek employment elsewhere furthers the devastation to the local community. A large proportion of current members use/choose to use LA Fitness in Edgware because of these noted features and are happy to pay the LA Fitness premium for it.
