There is already a public option - it's called Medicare.  Relative to Insurance Companies, it is a model of service, cost containment, and quality.  Now that Congress is about to pass the "Insurance Company Bailout Bill of 2009" at our expense, it is time for the American Public to demand the obvious solution to inexpensive health care for all - and not stop until we get it.  Yes, it works in Canada, France, England, etc.  If you have not seen it or not seen it lately, watch SICKO.
