Restructuring of December schedule for 2020 academic year
The Issue
Good Day Dr Masemola
As Medical Science students we feel overwhelmed by the module outline for this semester. We are expected to attend practicals once a week for the coming week and writing a test on the 28 of December when we are suppose to be in recess. This means we have to stay here at Turfloop for the whole of December because most of us are not from Limpopo so we can't spontaneously go home anytime we want. This does not sound fair to any of us,because most students have been here since August some even more than that and we cant visit home.As much as we are students we are also children, siblings and have a life outside of school.
Not all of the students live on camp. And we are approaching December a reckless time for South Africa which has been proven that it is the hotspot time for crimes.Students who live off campus will not be safe.As most of their neighbours (who are limpopo based) will go home as they do everything online leaving that student alone or with a few people in a complex which attracts criminals. As much as we want to finish the academic year we should not put students' lives at risk.
We are suggesting that we complete the practicals in one week where both groups can come in and interchange venues. If this request is not possible, we also suggest that the practicals be online as with our modules. And the test date be moved to earlier, later or online on the given date (28 December).
We hope the above meets your approval.
