Allow Chickens to be Owned in Vaughan
The Issue
In Vaughan, the city in which I reside, chickens are not allowed to be owned and I want to change that with your help.
Ever since I was young, I used to live in a environment with animals at my grandma's house. She used to own chickens and i used to love them a lot. But since we moved, I wanted to have chickens. When we got chickens, we were told to get rid of them because they are not allowed in Vaughan. Many people also kept chickens in Vaughan but then they were soon told to get rid of them. If you used to own chickens, you will understand how I feel. When I had chickens they used to make my day everyday and they got me through quarantine. Many people feel the same way.
One main issue for others about owning chickens is the noise the rooster makes. Many people do not like that and that is understandable. Our neighbour complained about the noise and we started to think of a solution. Most people keep chickens because they lay eggs and we can harvest the eggs instead of paying for them. If we are keeping chickens for eggs only, then we only keep the hens. Hens do not make much noise and they don't need a rooster to lay eggs.
The second reason people keep chickens is to have a flock. To have a flock, you either have to buy the chickens and or you can just buy one rooster and one chicken and have them reproduce. But then the rooster noise issue comes up. What we can do to stop the noise is to keep the rooster in a sound proof location, and when we need the rooster to reproduce with the chicken, put them in the same location that is also sound proof. Once the eggs are fertilised, you can keep the rooster in the soundproof location.
The chicken does not have to be in a soundproof location because it does not make that much noise.
