Fund and Implement 100% municipal wastewater reuse in Maui Island, Hawaii.
Why this petition matters

The County of Maui injects millions of gallons per day of wastewater into nearshore injection wells in Kihei, Lahaina and Kahului. This practice seriously harms nearshore reef ecosystems, and creates hazards for protected aquatic human uses such as swimming and surfing. The County of Maui should implement 100% municipal wastewater reuse, to restore reefs and lessen the harmful impacts on protected nearshore activities. We believe that large scale food agroforests should be planted for irrigation with the reuse wastewater, to enhance long-term island food security by growing food, instead of degrading long-term local food security by continuing to harm reefs. Recent federal infrastructure funding has provided billions in federal funding to address pandemic-related issues, let's use that to go to 100% reuse as quickly as possible. It's a matter of public health: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/05/200506133603.htm
