Boston Logan Airport No-Fly-Zone 8pm-8am

Boston Logan Airport No-Fly-Zone 8pm-8am

The Issue

Currently airplanes take off from Boston Logan airport, and fly low over densely populated areas of Boston and neighboring towns from 6am on, in high frequency (in 40sec -2 min intervals), and regularly cause severe  sleep interruptions due to extremely high noise levels (see noise map: https://www.massport.com/media/vn3npr2w/60-75-dnl-contours-for-2019-operations-using-aedt-3c.pdf This leads to detrimental health issues in large populations of Boston, due to a) noise pollution and sleep interruption deprivation and b) significant air pollution.

Scientifically proven, noise pollution by low flying airplanes causes significant stress and sleep disturbances and subsequently severe cardiovascular health issues.
The associated air pollution has detrimental effects on health, too.

Measurements such as newer less noisy engines, less take off speed, increased use of over ocean routes, are helpful especially during daytime, and should be promoted and enforced,  yet, have not proven successful in meaningful noise reduction during nighttime.

A flight restriction from 8pm to 8am on workdays, and from 9pm to 9am on weekends and holidays would at least allow uninterrupted sleep during those hours, and would have an immediate positive effect on sleep and life quality of a large population of Boston and its surrounding towns.
Therefore, we ask our representatives and officials to facilitate the implementation of a no-fly order during these times. For a better health and improved life quality of the residents of Boston and their neighboring towns.
Therfore we kindly ask to sign this petition and to join the public presentation of the MIT airport noise study scheduled for September 23 5:30 PM:
