Mandatory Labelling of Halal and Jhatka Meat
Mandatory Labelling of Halal and Jhatka Meat
The Issue
Petition: Mandatory Labelling of Halal and Non-Religious Slaughter Meat - It should be mandatory for all food establishments to clearly label whether the meat they serve is Halal, Non-Halal, or Jhatka.
I respect People who eat Halal at same time people who eat Jhatka or Kosher should know what meat they are eating as per their religious requirements.
As a consumer, it is essential to have transparency regarding the food we consume, especially when it involves dietary or religious beliefs. Many individuals, including Sikhs, Hindus, and members of other communities, follow strict dietary guidelines that prohibit the consumption of religiously slaughtered meat, such as Halal or Kosher.
However, it has come to light that many restaurants and food establishments serve Halal-certified meat without explicitly informing their customers. For instance, Domino’s UK has confirmed on its corporate website that most of its chicken is sourced from Halal-certified suppliers, yet this information is not prominently displayed on its ordering platform. Other establishments, such as certain restaurants and hotels, have been found to provide Halal meat without openly disclosing it to all customers.
This lack of transparency not only affects non-Muslims who avoid religiously slaughtered meat but can also inadvertently mislead Muslim customers about the nature of the meat being served. Without clear labelling, consumers from all backgrounds are unable to make informed choices that align with their dietary or religious beliefs.
A positive step in this direction has been taken by Air India, which recently announced it would serve Jhatka meat as the default option on its flights, with Halal meat available upon request. This approach ensures fairness and respects the diverse dietary needs of all passengers.
We believe that:
It should be mandatory for all food establishments to clearly label whether the meat they serve is Halal, Non-Halal, or Jhatka.
This transparency would allow customers to make informed decisions and respect the dietary practices of all communities.
Government authorities should implement regulations ensuring that food establishments prominently display this information on menus and ordering platforms.
This is not about opposing any community but about promoting fairness, respect, and transparency. Clear labelling would ensure that everyone can make choices that align with their beliefs.
Sign this petition to advocate for mandatory labelling of Halal, Non-Halal, or Jhatka meat across all food establishments. Together, we can ensure informed choices for everyone!
