I am a survivor. My rape allegation was dismissed, my cries for justice ignored, and my assailant walked free. It is time to ensure that no one else becomes another silent victim.

Military sexual trauma is an alarming reality. A 2019 report by the Department of Defense revealed that there were a staggering 20,500 instances of unwanted sexual contact — a term that includes rape — an increase of 38% from two years prior (Department of Defense, 2019). Yet, many of these cases never make it to trial, a glaring failure in providing justice for victims.

This petition demands the mandatory trial for all sexual assault allegations within the military. This reform would create an environment of accountability, providing victims with the justice they deserve while creating a strong deterrent for potential perpetrators. There must be transparency in investigations, and all victims, like myself, should be granted the right to a fair trial.
