Mandate Timely Communication of Street Sweeping and Snow Plowing Schedules

Mandate Timely Communication of Street Sweeping and Snow Plowing Schedules
The Issue
As a longtime resident of Minneapolis, Minnesota, particularly in the Marcy Holmes/Dinky neighborhood, I've witnessed an unsettling imbalance in parking regulations, towing practices, and the prevalence of ticketing officers. It is distressing how disparities are glaring and seemingly favor neighborhoods with higher income levels and less density.
Our community, full of dedicated students/workers.. as well as hardworking families, feels the brunt of what appears to be discriminative practices. Many have echoed feelings of excessive and premature towing without proper notice. The routine concealed nature of temporary paper signs communicating street sweeping and snow plowing days often result in unwelcome surprises for countless individuals, myself included.
One major issue here is that these signs often disintegrate in the rain, leaving us clueless, unable to move our vehicles in time, and falling prey to swift ticketing and towing actions. In fact, vehicles are often towed a mere 15 minutes post-ticketing, an act that feels extremely punitive and unnecessary.
We demand a solution. We demand that these schedules should not only be communicated through conspicuous physical signs but also to our email addresses or via text messages—a digital age approach that champions inclusivity and considerateness. That is the bare minimum we deserve as residents of this beautiful city. We deserve equality among all neighborhoods.
Moreover, we require justice in towing. While the law states that a car can be towed any time post ticketing, we urge for the implementation of a grace period that allows individuals to act and avoid the inconvenience and expense of premature towing.
Our community deserves better - practical solutions that take into account our concerns and promote fair parking enforcement.
Let this be the catalyst for a change in how we manage parking regulations and tow practices in our city. Sign this petition and together, let's drive towards a fairer future for all residents, irrespective of neighborhood median income or density.
