Andrea Jenkins is an American politician, writer, performance artist, poet, and transgender activist. She is notably the first Black openly transgender woman elected to public office in the United States, serving on the Minneapolis City Council since January 2018, and as its president from January 2022 to January 2024. Andrea is affiliated with the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party. Her educational background includes a Bachelor's in Human Services from Metropolitan State University, a Master's in Creative Writing from Hamline University, and a Master's in Community Economic Development from Southern New Hampshire University. Her career includes roles such as Councilmember for Ward 8 and Senior Policy Aide in Minneapolis. Andrea is also recognized for her activism and contributions to the arts.
