Mandate the Provision of Fluoride in New Paltz Village's Drinking Water

Mandate the Provision of Fluoride in New Paltz Village's Drinking Water
The Issue
I am a resident of the Village of New Paltz in Ulster County. For 75 years, fluoride, a critical component for dental health, has been used by American municipalities. It has been rigorously tested and approved for use by esteemed organizations such as the CDC and the American Dental Association. Unfortunately, our village seems to be an exception in this widespread practice. Unlike many communities in our state, Ulster County has only 3% of its water fluoridated.
The lack of fluoride in our village's water is perplexing and concerning. The absence of this principal mineral triggers numerous dental health issues, including tooth decay. The CDC has identified water fluoridation as one of the ten great public health achievements of the 20th century due to its significant impact on improving dental health, especially among children.
Furthermore, a survey by the American Dental Association found that fluoridated water decreases tooth decay by 25% in children and adults.
Given this glaring disparity, it has become necessary to raise our voices for the health of our community. We are therefore reaching out to our local policymakers, urging them to mandate the provision of fluoride in our drinking water. It's time that the residents of New Paltz Village, like so many other Americans, benefit from fluoridated water for improved dental health. It is a proven, cost-effective, and an equitable way to deliver fluoride to all community members, regardless of their age, income, or education.
Let's make New Paltz Village a community that prioritizes its residents' well-being. Sign this petition to help us bring about this crucial change in our village's water supply.
