The Issue

Communication is a vital bridge that connects us, and I’ve seen firsthand how isolating it can be when that bridge doesn’t exist. Through personal experiences, I’ve realized how difficult it can be for many people to interact with deaf or mute individuals. Situations that could have been inclusive and meaningful often become distant due to the absence of sign language skills.

In our increasingly diverse and interconnected world, the ability to communicate with one another is more important than ever. While learning foreign languages is undeniably valuable, incorporating sign language into the school curriculum would be a powerful step toward greater inclusivity and accessibility. By introducing sign language as a mandatory subject alongside other languages, we can ensure that the next generation is equipped to communicate with the hearing-impaired community.

Countries like Finland and New Zealand have recognized the importance of sign language by making it an official language and integrating it into education. In the United States, American Sign Language (ASL) use is growing rapidly, with over 500,000 people using it daily to communicate.

We are not asking to replace existing language programs, but to expand them. Adding sign language to the curriculum can foster empathy, enhance cognitive skills, and break down social barriers. It can create a more inclusive environment for everyone, including those in the deaf and mute communities.

We urge the Ministry of Education to take a progressive and inclusive step by integrating sign language into the national curriculum. Let's give every student the opportunity to learn this essential form of communication and help build a society where everyone has a voice, whether spoken or signed.

Sign this petition to support a more inclusive, understanding, and connected future. Together, we can create a world where no one is left unheard.
