Mandate New Infrastructure Plans for Each New Area or Town Built

The Issue

As a resident of Colchester in Essex, I experience firsthand the acute strain on essential services such as health and dental care. It's become nearly impossible to secure doctors and hospital appointments. The services in our city are on the brink, yet, the construction of houses that most lower-paid British people cannot afford is unabated. This petition seeks to address this pressing issue.

We want to command the government's attention to ensure that for every new area and/or town they build, there must be corresponding infrastructure plans implemented simultaneously, not afterward. The present lack of such provisions is exerting extraordinary pressure on already strained local services, exacerbating the difficulties faced by residents.

Additionally, we urge that necessary consideration be given to the housing needs of British citizens first, especially the lower income earners. This would help to alleviate the exacerbating housing affordability crisis plaguing our communities.

According to a report by the Center for Cities (2020), due to the lack of infrastructure accompanying new housing, 55% of homes in the largest cities and towns in the South are unaffordable for the average earning families.

We implore the government to amend construction and housing policies to better address citizens' needs. Join us in pushing for these vital changes. Sign the petition today.
