The Issue

I’ve always known that I experienced the world differently from those around me, but it wasn’t until I turned 25 that I was officially diagnosed with Autism(a late diagnosis that is especially common for women and girls). Many of us learn to mask our challenges, and because our traits can present differently, they are often misunderstood or missed entirely.

As a neurodivergent individual, navigating school and the workplace has been challenging, not only because of my condition, but because of the widespread lack of understanding about what neurodivergence means. I’ve faced rude comments and inadequate support, not out of malice, but due to a lack of awareness and education.

This is why I’ve created a petition calling for mandatory Autism and neurodiversity training in all UK workplaces and educational settings and I need your support.

There are over 700,000 autistic people in the UK alone, and that doesn’t include those with ADHD, dyslexia, and other neurodivergent conditions. The impact of misunderstanding these experiences extends far beyond individuals, it affects families, schools, workplaces, and society as a whole.

This training would go beyond basic awareness. It would help people understand: • The full spectrum of Autism, not just stereotypes

• Masking and the mental toll it takes

• Meltdowns and shutdowns, and how to respond with care

• Stimming and why it should be supported, not suppressed

• How neurodivergent conditions often overlap

• How to create inclusive, supportive environments

Neurodivergent people are not asking for special treatment, we are asking for understanding, fairness, and the opportunity to thrive.

Imagine schools where neurodivergent students are supported instead of punished.

Imagine workplaces where employees feel understood instead of judged.

Imagine a society that recognises differences as strengths, not problems.

By making neurodiversity training a legal requirement, we can create safer, more inclusive environments while also improving wellbeing, productivity, and overall success for everyone.

Our petition calls on the UK government to make this change. Your voice matters.
