Make the world secular
The Issue
The world as such should be secular. For that purpose each of the major religions like Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism etc should have at least one nation which acknowledges a religion as its national religion. At present all the major religions of the world, except Hinduism has at least one nation which declares it as a national religion. Islam has 50 or more countries which are Islamic. Even Buddhism has many countries which are Buddhist. Unfortunately no nation is a Hindu country.
To make the world as such secular, India should be declared as a Hindu country. This can be done only if the word secular is removed from its Preamble. When India was declared independent, this word was not present. It was forcibly introduced during the Emergency period in the 70s.
This petition urges the present BJP government which is a right wing party, to remove the word as it has the majority support politically.

Respected Sir/Madam,
We, the undersigned citizens and supporters of this petition, respectfully request that the Government of India initiate a national discussion on the removal of the word "Secular" from the Preamble of the Constitution of India and consider formally recognizing India as a Hindu nation.
India is widely regarded as the birthplace and civilizational home of Hinduism, one of the world's oldest surviving religious traditions. For thousands of years, Hindu philosophy, culture, traditions, and values have shaped the identity and heritage of the Indian subcontinent.
Many nations across the world openly identify themselves with a particular religious or cultural heritage. Several countries have official state religions or constitutional recognition of a dominant faith tradition. Supporters of this petition believe that while numerous nations are associated with Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, and other religions, there is no nation that formally identifies itself as a Hindu nation despite Hinduism's ancient origins and its deep connection to India.
The word "Secular" was inserted into the Preamble through the 42nd Constitutional Amendment in 1976 during the Emergency period. We believe that the Indian state can continue to guarantee equal rights, legal protections, and civil liberties to all citizens regardless of religion even if the word "Secular" is removed from the Constitution.
We further submit that recognizing India's Hindu civilizational character would acknowledge historical and cultural realities while preserving constitutional protections for minorities and maintaining democratic governance. Such recognition, in our view, would strengthen national identity and celebrate India's unique heritage.
India today is one of the world's largest democracies and a major global power. Supporters of this proposal believe that the nation has the confidence and maturity to openly define its civilizational identity while continuing to uphold justice, equality before the law, and respect for all communities.
Therefore, we respectfully request that:
The Government of India initiate a national consultation on the constitutional status of the term "Secular."
Parliament examine the possibility of removing the word "Secular" from the Preamble through the constitutional process.
A broad public debate be conducted involving constitutional experts, historians, religious leaders, and citizens.
The Government consider constitutional measures to recognize India's Hindu civilizational heritage and explore the possibility of formally declaring India a Hindu nation while ensuring equal rights and protections for all citizens.
We submit this petition in a spirit of democratic engagement and constitutional reform, with respect for differing viewpoints and for the unity and integrity of India.
