Each year, myself and many others battle hangovers from celebrating the Super Bowl on a Sunday only to have to return to work - bleary-eyed and fatigued - the very next day. This is a common experience to millions of Americans. In addition, studies suggest that around 17.5 million employees are likely to miss work the day after the Super Bowl, costing an estimated $4 billion in lost productivity according to The Workforce Institute. Isn't it time we considered minimizing the economic cost and personal toll of this day by making the Monday after the Super Bowl a national holiday? I feel that this isn't just about acknowledging a hangover, it's about recognizing the cultural significance of the Super Bowl and promoting employee well-being.
