Make the license legal for Organ Donations - Your decision over your family's

The issue

Signing this petition will support making driver's licenses a way to give full consent over your own decisions when it comes to organ donations.

Information:

According to, Kidney donation Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand Waikato, New Zealand is currently facing a shortage of organ donors, with approximately 600 people on the organ transplant waiting list.

A driver’s license does not give consent for organ donation only states intention. You have no control over your organs after you pass away. They value your family's decisions over your decisions when it comes to this. They will consider your family’s wishes and could donate your organs if your license prohibits them from doing so. This can take away your individual rights.

What we want to change: Human Tissue Act 2008

We want to change the Human Tissue Act 2008,  https://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/2008/0028/latest/DLM1152940.html policy by making the license legal. We want to follow your decisions, not your family members decisions, when it comes to your own body.

“Informed objection, in relation to any kind of collection or use of human tissue, means an objection to that kind of collection or use of the tissue (and so does not include any objection in general terms, raised by an applicant for, or holder of, a driver license, to that applicant or holder being an organ donor)…”

“Overriding objection, in relation to any kind of collection or use of tissue to which a close available relative has given informed consent, means an objection”

Who we are :

We are a group of 5 year 13 students from Hillcrest High School NZ. We are working on changing the Human Tissue Act 2008 policy as our social action for our sociology school assignment.
