The issue

At school, I learned about the devastating effects of plastic pollution on marine life, especially fish. It was heart-breaking to discover that countless fish die every year from consuming plastic debris, mistaking it for food. No one wants the to fish to die, so I came up with a simple yet potentially life-saving idea: let's make all plastics bright neon colours!

Imagine you're a fish swimming in the ocean, living your life peacefully. Suddenly, you encounter a small, dull piece of plastic. It looks like food, so you swallow it instinctively. This scenario happens millions of times, leading to the death of countless fish. However, if plastics were produced in vibrant neon colours, the startling effect could deter fish from mistaking them for prey.

A study by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration indicates that more than 100 million marine animals die each year due to plastic waste. This staggering statistic highlights the urgent need for innovative solutions to mitigate the impact of plastic on ocean ecosystems.

Manufacturers and product designers can actively incorporate this change by adjusting the production process to include neon pigmentation in plastics. Bright neon colours are known for their attention-grabbing properties, and their application here could serve as an effective deterrent.

Let's take a stand and urge companies to commit to this small yet powerful change. By signing this petition, you are supporting an initiative that aims to protect marine life, preserve ocean biodiversity, and contribute to a healthier planet.

Please sign this petition and let's save the fishies from plastic consumption by making plastics neon and less appealing to marine life.
