The Issue

I am one among many hardworking individuals in the UK. I put in extra hours, going beyond my regular work schedule, only to have a significant amount of my earnings taken away in the form of overtime taxes. It feels not only unfair but demoralising that our striving and dedication are not being acknowledged, but rather are being penalised.

Overtime work is often burdensome, taking time away from families and personal lives, and causing increased stress and fatigue. It's a sacrifice individuals choose to make for the sake of larger financial goals. Yet, the current tax system deducts a hefty portion of these hard-earned overtime payments, leaving us with significantly less than we deserve.

Overtime in the UK is fairly common, with workers putting in an extra 7.7 hours on average every week, according to the Office for National Statistics (2019). This taxation significantly affects the people who may most need the additional income.

I call for the policy of taxing overtime to be reconsidered. It's necessary to give due respect and financial reward to those who go the extra mile in their workplaces, contributing significantly to the economy only to be financially short-changed by existing tax laws.

Stand with us, hard-working citizens of the UK, to give our request a voice. Help us make the toil of our overtime work tax-free. Sign this petition. Let's strive for a fairer treatment of the workforce, giving credit where it's deserved.
