Why this petition matters

Started by Valerie Short

In the US, there are over 100,000 people waiting on organ transplant lists.

According to OrganDonor.gov:
- 17 people die every day waiting for an organ transplant.
- Every deceased donor can save up to 8 lives with necessary organs.
- Another person is added to the wait list every 9 minutes.

Currently, our system does not automatically sign us up to be organ donors. We have to manually do that ourselves. This petition’s goal is to change the process to be the other way around in the state of Kentucky.

This change would significantly increase the availability of live-saving organs for people in need while remaining respectful of people’s wishes and religious beliefs, as they could opt out if they decide organ donation isn’t right for them.

I personally have a family member in need of a transplant, so this issue is especially important to me. By making this change, he and so many others could receive the life-saving medical care they need. Please sign and share.
