Every Sunday evening, a familiar dread starts to settle in my stomach. The thought of another week at school fills me with an overwhelming sense of boredom. I know I'm not alone in this feeling—many students find themselves dragging their feet every Monday morning, longing for just one more day of rest. That's why I believe Monday should be part of the weekend.

School can be monotonous and exhausting, often leaving us stressed and burned out by the time the weekend arrives. Adding Monday to the weekend would give students like me the chance to recharge, reduce stress, and return to school on Tuesday feeling more refreshed and ready to learn. It would allow us to spend more time with family, pursue hobbies, and engage in extracurricular activities—which are essential for our personal growth and mental well-being.

Studies have shown that shortening the school week can lead to increased productivity, improved attendance, and better academic performance. According to a report by the National Education Policy Center, schools that adopted a four-day week reported fewer teacher and student absences, along with significant decreases in student disciplinary problems. These schools also saw a positive impact on student attitudes toward learning.

Implementing a three-day weekend is not a new idea. Countries like Finland, known for their progressive education system, have experimented with shorter school weeks to great success. They emphasize the importance of balancing academic learning with rest and relaxation, which results in students who are not only well-educated but also happier and healthier.

Incorporating Monday into the weekend doesn’t mean less learning—it means better learning. By allowing students more time for rest and family activities, we create a better balance that nurtures both the mind and spirit.
