Many Aughrim residents and beyond are shocked and heartbroken to see the sorry state that Lawless's Hotel currently stands in. 

Once the beating heart of the community it was a thriving hotel dating all the way back to the seventeen hundreds. It was the gathering place for so many locals and couples came from near and far to celebrate their wedding there. Many a party, 21st, anniversary, communion, confirmation were celebrated to. All the discos in 'the back spot' as the function room was affectionately known as. People came from all over the county to attend meetings, GAA, Macra, ICA and much more! Many any auction was held there and many a deal done, especially when the mart was there in the carpark. Many locals started their careers with their first jobs in Lawless. You ask anyone in the County of Wicklow or beyond and they will have a story or memory of Lawless. 

It stood tall, proud and beautiful for hundreds of years in our award winning tidy little town but in recent years Lawless's has been abandoned, left to rot, no maintenance leading to a dangerous and crumbling infrastructure. Gutted of its fixtures and fittings, vandalised and a hub for anti-social behaviour. It's now in a shameful and sorry state.

But many people have had enough, we cannot sit by any longer and look on as our beautiful historic hotel crumbles to nothing. 

We need action to be taken. The current owners have allowed this to happen so our hands are tied. There is only one thing the community can do and that is to call on Wicklow County Council to put a compulsory purchase order on Lawless's Hotel.
