The Issue

As someone who has lived with a severe peanut allergy all my life, I know firsthand how essential EpiPens are for those of us who rely on them to stop potentially fatal allergic reactions. It's deeply concerning how the cost of EpiPens has skyrocketed in recent years, putting an unimaginable financial strain on countless families and individuals in need. To put to perspective how much these prices have skyrocketed, the price of a single pack of two EpiPens can range from 400-600 dollars even though each autoinjector only costs roughly around a couple dollars to make.

Imagine the sheer panic of experiencing a severe allergic reaction, only to be burdened by the fear of whether you can afford the very thing that could save your life. This is the harsh reality for many who depend on EpiPens. The significant price increase jeopardizes the health and safety of millions of people who require these life-saving devices.

Epinephrine autoinjectors like Epi-Pens are not a luxury; they are a necessity. The unjust pricing not only affects those with allergies, but also parents, caregivers, and anyone who might need to assist in an emergency. This critical issue requires immediate attention and action.

One way that we can bring these ridiculous prices down is increase the amount of competition that there is in the epinephrine market in order to get rid of this monopoly that EpiPen manufacturers like Mylan have created so that less fortunate citizens can have access to cheaper options. Competition in this market can be created by passing legislation that speeds up the FDA’s review process for generic EpiPen brands, which normally can take years due to delays. This would help create more generic, and cheaper options for people who desperately need autoinjectors, and could also force Mylan to lower the cost of their medication. Another way that we can stop this problem is that we can get our senators and representatives to pass H.R.5139, or the EPIPEN Act, which will require health insurance plans to cover medical devices like this and effectively put a $60 cap on each pack of two EpiPens.

Join me in this fight to make EpiPens reasonably priced for everyone. Your signature can amplify our voice and push for the necessary changes to save lives. Please sign this petition today to make a real difference.
