CBC is actually a class issue. It is a class war. It is meant to create a system where the children of the poor will serve the rich. This is why you will find the elitist middle class jumping to its defence and neglecting its impact on the poor. 

 

Even when we are lucky to afford things we shouldn't be blinded to the scarcity and suffering all around us. Nobody should support an education system which sacrifices the poor for the sake of the rich.

 

How many hawkers, mama mbogas, bodaboda riders, farmers, MSE owners/workers, matatu drivers and conductors etc. can afford to create time to do home working with their kids without risking their starvation? How many people can afford its endless financial demands?

 

What exactly is the issue with the current system of education? Is there an industry in Kenya which has no workers due to lack of skilled people in the country? We suffer a chronic shortage of jobs not lack of workers. 

 

The plan is therefore to create an education system where the few jobs available will go to the children of the middle class as those of the poor are eternally confined to be manual labourers. This will be achieved through the proposed career pathways. Children of the middle class who can afford the system will qualify for STEM subjects. 

 

Wealth will be confused with intelligence. Poverty will be equated to stupidity and low IQ. 

 

The children of the poor will be consigned to technical and manual courses. Why do we want kids to choose careers at the equivalent of what is currently form one? What does a kid know at that age?

 

There is nothing wrong with 8-4-4. The system's graduates excel in Ivy League universities and in jobs in all kind of companies all over the world. 8-4-4 is a system where any kid can become anything they desire. CBC is a system where a kid can only become what has been prescribed for them. CBC is life imprisonment. 

 

Every aspect of CBC is designed to disadvantage and destroy the poor. It is supposed to create a cruel caste system where once born poor you will suffer poverty to your last day on earth. I am horrified that there are people who defend this system.

We must rise above our class and fight for an education system that favours all the children in this country. Let's make our leaders responsible for what is happening in school and demand for change.
