Make Automated Insulin Delivery affordable for all Australians with type 1 diabetes

Make Automated Insulin Delivery affordable for all Australians with type 1 diabetes
The issue
Insulin pump funding is broken.
The right to standard care shouldn't depend on your bank balance or where you live. Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) is standard care for people with type 1 diabetes. AID systems connect insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors to allow automatic adjustment of insulin delivery. Due to our current pump funding model, AID is out of reach of many Australians living with T1D.
AID is standard care. It’s time to make it affordable.
The evidence is clear. AID improves blood glucose levels, reduces diabetes distress, enhances quality of life and is a cost-effective investment for our health system. However, with insulin pumps costing up to $10,000, access to AID remains out of reach for many.
While countries like New Zealand, England and Wales are expanding access to diabetes technologies, Australia lags behind.
In Australia, fewer than 25% of people with T1D use an insulin pump, with those from high socioeconomic backgrounds twice as likely to have pump access.
We call on the Australian government to change the way insulin pumps are funded to enable universal access to AID.
We note that England, Wales and New Zealand are all introducing policies to provide all people living with T1D access to AID without financial burden.
As we sign this petition, the Australian government is deciding on the future direction of diabetes care in Australia. We urge them to ensure all Australians living with T1D have access to standard care, regardless of their bank balance or where they live.
How you can help:

We must address this longstanding inequity to ensure AID is accessible to all Australians with T1D.
