Hi Super Supporters!

Last week I went to meet decision maker Lil-Lets at their HQ in Solihull! It isn’t the first time I have delivered the petition to them, last year I did a peaceful demonstration and asked to speak to someone, which went unanswered. So, when they accepted and invited me to meet them, you can imagine I was pretty excited to speak to them and hear what they had to say.

In the meeting I discussed the unnecessary plastic in their period products, the avoidable impacts, what the campaign is calling for and why they need to bring about change. I also spoke about stopping the production of their own-brand plastic applicators and making other changes like putting the do not flush logo onto individual items inside packaging.

I asked Lil-Lets a lot of questions, which they answered and we had an open conversation. They were keen to hear more about the campaign, what it’s asking for and we were so engrossed in the conversation that I missed my train!

They discussed the issue and shared the steps they’ve made over the last year and ones they are looking to make in the future. Some of these are listed below and others I can’t share at this time:
- 1st to put Do-Not Flush logo on the front/top of pack.
- 1st non-app tampon to openly share ingredients & amount of plastic on packaging.
- Lil-Lets non-app have always been wrapped in cellophane (sustainable made from trees). Fully compostable cellophane wrappers for Lil-Lets non-app tampons will be available later in 2020.

Lil-Lets said: “Thanks for the great meeting last week, Ella, there was so much value in sitting down and hearing first hand your vision and journey so far. Congratulations to you and your supporters for the impressive milestones achieved. It was great to openly share the steps that Lil-Lets has been taking to reduce plastic in our products, whilst we have always used cellophane wrappers (sustainable made from trees) we are improving this even further this year by making our wrappers fully compostable.  Creating an awareness about how much plastic is found in mainstream sanitary products has also been a key focus and we’ve reach millions of women so far through our recent campaigns and by declaring plastic content on our packaging.  Responsible disposal is a key part of this environmental equation, so we have moved the Do Not Flush logo to the most prominent place on the pack and following our meeting last week are currently exploring ways to include it on individual tampons.  There is more to come and we look forward to sharing each of these wins with you on the way.  Thanks again”

Lil-Lets have committed to an open dialogue and are going to keep me updated when changes take place and I will keep you informed of this as and when it happens!

Thank you for all your continued support!

Ella :)
