Hi Super Supporters!

I’m updating today to tell you the fantastic news that Lil-Lets is launching an eco-friendly range! They are the first decision maker out of all the manufacturers and supermarkets on the petition to take this step!

It’s great that Lil-Lets has listened and reacted to the campaign by developing and bringing out an organic and plastic-free range. This important step will make eco-friendly options more mainstream and accessible to people all over the UK. It also shows that decision makers are listening, change is possible and people power and perseverance pays off!

About the range:
Companies have to be careful with how they label products and many don't call their ranges 'plastic-free' even if they don't contain virgin plastic and only contain plant-based plastic, for example cornstarch. I've referred to the range as plastic-free as it contains no fossil fuel derived/virgin plastic.

The eco-friendly pads are organic and plastic-free, they are made of organic cotton and have a corn-starch bio-film.
The eco-friendly non-app tampons were launched in 2019 and are both organic and plastic-free in themselves, but currently have a wrapper made of plastic. This will be swapped to cellulose – a sustainable alternative made from trees - in a few months’ time.

Mary Young, Global Marketing Executive, Lil-Lets said “The End Period Plastic campaign lead by Ella Daish has done a phenomenal job shining the light on this burning issue.

Over the last few years we have been focussed on educating on plastic & reducing the amount of plastic in our core products. By launching an Organic alternative we believe that we are staying true to the brand by offering choice. Almost 2/3rds of UK consumers choose to use pads and there was a clear call for a trusted brand to provide an Organic alternative to existing products on the market which is why we launched the pad. We want to be completely transparent so that the choice that is made is a fully educated one. We are not yet the best that we can be, but we are making progress and we are fully committed to looking at ways to make our range of products more environmentally friendly”

This move doesn’t have an impact on any of their conventional tampons and pads, which contain plastic, it is adding an eco-friendly option to their product range. I hope to see other manufacturers and supermarkets doing this as well as taking steps to remove plastic from their existing products. Yes, we need eco-friendly options, but we also need them to be affordable and for decision makers to address the plastic in their core ranges, not just adding eco-ranges.

2020 is a big year for the campaign and there is lots happening behind the scenes, which I can't wait to update you on. Thank you for all your continued support!

Ella :)
