Maintain Open Access for Vehicles on Ouse Bridge and Rougier Street
The Issue
As a resident dependent on using the Ouse Bridge and Rougier street for north-south journeys from Leeman Road and the new York Central site, the potential closure of these routes to cars and vans causes considerable concern. This isn't simply a matter of personal convenience—it's about preserving the lifeblood of our local community.
These routes are not just critical thoroughfares for residents, they serve an essential purpose for the economic vitality of York City Centre. Commercial vehicles rely on these routes to service the city, and small traders, like those on Micklegate, rely on customer access for their survival.
With many local businesses such as quick stop shops and service providers like hairdressers dependent on the traffic these routes support, closing them could have devastating impacts on the local economy. As we know, small businesses contribute significantly to both the economic health and unique character of our community. According to the Federation of Small Businesses, at the start of 2018 small businesses accounted for 99.3% of all private sector businesses in the UK.
We must preserve not just vital transportation routes, but also the life and vibrancy of our local community. Sign this petition to keep the Ouse Bridge and Rougier Street open for cars and vans.
