Making Augusta Road, Lenah Valley safe for all road users

Making Augusta Road, Lenah Valley safe for all road users
Why this petition matters

The section of Augusta Road between Suncrest Avenue and Creek Road has had four known accidents, that I'm aware of, in less than three years, with three of the accidents involving the existing pedestrian refuge just west of Suncrest Avenue.
In order to prevent a serious injury or death to a non-vehicle road user, as well as reduce crashes generally, I am calling on Hobart City Council to:
- monitor and gather vehicle travel speeds on the section of Augusta Road between Giblin Street and Athleen Avenue
- investigate and report on crash data on the section of Augusta Road between Giblin Street and Athleen Avenue since the installation of the pedestrian refuge in June 2015
- investigate and implement within a reasonable timeframe, in consultation with the local community, a multi-modal solution for the section of Augusta Road between Giblin Street and Athleen Avenue that is nationally consistent with safe system infrastructure and knowledge, which may involve, but is not limited to, reducing opportunities for vehicles speeding, providing separated and protected cycleways and planting street trees.
Augusta Road plays more than a movement function for vehicles.
The road provides a link to school children accessing Lenah Valley Primary School and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School, cyclists and pedestrians traveling to the Hobart CBD and local shops, people and pets walking to John Turnbull Park, as well as residents informally and spontaneously meeting with fellow residents.
Augusta Road has a place function and should be designed as such.
I have raised my concerns with City of Hobart previously, specifically after the last accident in May 2021, with no formal response, as well as on 10 October 2021 after the last accident. I intend to submit this petition to Hobart City Council for consideration at a future Council meeting.
I don't want to see someone seriously injured, whether that be a pedestrian, a cyclist or drivers.
I do want to see Augusta Road continue to be beautified and be made a nice and more welcoming place.
