Petition your elected officials for Long-Term Unemployment benefits.
Your constituents need help! We need jobs or unemployment benefits. Millions of US citizens are now without any income. What are you doing to help us?
When President Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law on August 15, 1935, establishing Unemployment Insurance, he had witnessed, first hand, the widespread suffering caused by the Great Depression. We are clearly in an economic position equal to, or worse than, the “crash of 1929”. We, the long term unemployed, need a helping hand. Many of us have lost, or are losing, all of the things we worked so hard for over the years.
The prices of every day items, gasoline, milk, bread, ect., are creeping up and an unemployment check barely keeps us going. Anyone thinking that we are comfortably living on unemployment is surely misinformed. I would suggest to that person, try to live on 20-25% of your income.
My benefits have expired before I could secure a new job, I am not be able buy gasoline, pay car payments and insurance, pay for internet access. All of these are crucial to seeking employment. All will have a negative impact on the economy. Multiply that by the millions of long term unemployed citizens in the same condition.
Until the major issues of the job market and employers are addressed, and employers have more confidence in the economy, there will be no improvement. Long-Term Unemployment benefits are needed for the claimants that will exhaust all of their benefits very soon. We are asking for a hand up, not a handout.
We will remember your actions in November.
