The issue

This petition calls on both local and state government to adopt Anti Discrimination into Anti Bullying Campaign.

Since the 2023 Voice Referendum there has been an increase in racial division between First nations peoples and Non Indigenous people and discrimination cases up 52.1%.  Particularly surrounding concerns about Native Title laws locally and abroad. There has also been a sharp rise in discrimination towards people from the LGBTIQ (Queer/Gay community) up 42.6% including religious minorities up 39.2%. There is also sadly a sharp rise in domestic violence since the Covid - 19 pandemic in particular. In 2023, there was a 28% increase in the number of women killed by their partners in Australia. Age discrimination towards both young and older peoples is increasing as well.

With both Redland City Council and the QLD State Crisafulli LNP Government adopting measures to introduce anti bullying campaigns in the online and education systems we need the governments of the day to adopt stronger Anti - Discrimination measures being incorporated into this anti bullying campaign. Or else it risks the increase of further bullying, and discrimination or worse division, and or conflict which damages the wider community as a whole. I also encourage the media, and local community groups to also do more to help advocate for the Anti Discrimination laws as part of its anti bullying campaigning.

Since the rise of Trump on western global liberal order its evident that division and polarization have become more the norm since 2016 which worsened during the pandemic in the early 2020s. All levels of government have a responsibility to mitigate the effects of discrimination regardless somebody's race, gender, sexuality, religion, impairments/disabilities, age, or political beliefs.

With IDAHOBIT day, and Sorry Day in May 2025, Anti-Bullying Week in 2025 will be observed from November 13th to November 17th. International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) is observed annually on December 3rd. Its important that our governments take up the need to do better. It comes after the news that the Crisafulli LNP QLD State Government is indefinitely holding off proposed laws to strengthen the Anti - Discrimination Act 1991.

We are better then this aren't we? Have we not learnt from the struggles in human history? Diversity is a strength not a threat! It makes us a more wholesome vibrant productive community together.
